true that institutions survive through time, people pass by and only death
is final...
Due to radical changes in some of the conditions that have lead to the creation of the 4-Way Formation Skydiving Team "Matrix FS" on December 05, 2001, which have made impossible its continuity with the original line-up, the Team has ceased all its activity on September 13, 2002, a truly "Friday 13"... Institutions survive through time, people pass by and only death is final... Because I've been involved a lot on this Team's creation, putting the best of my knowledge on its project building and giving so much of my will and both mental and time availability during the 283 days that have last for, I'm truly sad on this feeling of watching the fading away of a dream consisting on the belief that the best way to learn and improve Formation Skydiving skills is through the best tool known for this purpose: a Formation Skydiving Team... At this point, it's hardly emotional having to admit the failure, mainly when this is related with something that we love so much and where we've put so much commitment in order to ensure the goals achievement... It's unavoidable the question about what may have failed... All of us have failed, because all of us were in the project and this has been interrupted... May be we have failed as well because we have tried to implement and apply working methods that, although are references for so many teams that were successful on applying them and from them getting excellent results in terms of their performance evolution, for some of our mentalities probably have not been the more adequate... However, I still believe that those are valid methods... The problem has been within ourselves, on the people, on the mentalities, on the impossibility of forgetting the own for the Team, on being unsuccessful about practicing some basic principles, as those shown at articles like Forming a Team, Goals, PEDL - Planning, Execution, Debriefing, Learning, Team Communication, Team Dynamics, Understanding Your Slot, just to mention some... The end of this project as it has lasted until now, has resulted from the perception that is better to admit a mistake than keep insisting on it... Believing that the methods were good and adequate and admitting as well that all of us have contributed for this time "Matrix FS" project failure, it's obvious the conclusion that what didn't work properly was the people combination within the Team, as it has failed the conclusion of the goals initially planned... It could have worked fine if together we had put a stronger effort for its success... as that didn't happen, we'll never know the truly Team's potential... The work done and organized won't, for sure, be destroyed and, who knows, might be used and even improved in the future, working as a reference for some of those who have participated in this Team's project and to all of those who have some type of interest about 4-Way FS, in Portugal and all over the World... See you around, forever! New video of the portuguese "BASE Jumper" Mário Pardo, regarding his journey to the Switzerland mountains, last August 2002. "Arizona Airspeed Mind Maps 2003" (Recently released) Another outstanding tool available to 4-Way Formation Skydiving Teams, based on the Arizona Airspeed Continuity Plan and on the 4-Way Formation Skydiving IPC Dive Pool 2002! It's an Interactive CD-ROM which allows instant access to LIVE-ACTION VIDEO of every exit and block transition, and among other features, uses a VIRTUAL VIDEOGRAPHER to fly around the formations and see the dive pool from every angle, uses a Mário Pardo achieved last Saturday, July 13, 2002, around 10:00 AM, the legitimate right to be known as the first portuguese B.A.S.E. jumper, when he succeeded to get his "A" remaining letter. The letters of the word B.A.S.E. stand for Building, Antenna, Span and Earth. The B.A.S.E. jump here noticed, has been executed from the Rádio Renascença retransmitting Antenna, located at Muge (between Almeirim and Benavente, in the district of Santarém). This antenna is the highest antenna in Europe (being 265 meters high), only superseded, in terms of metallic structure, by the Eiffel Tower with its 324 meters. This B.A.S.E. jump, classified by the own Mário Pardo as his consecration jump, has had a delay time of about 5.60 seconds (since the exit from the top of the antenna until the moment of the pull-out), including a 360ş forward looping manoeuver, during the freefall phase. If you'd like more information about the jump, please look at the Press Release. You'll be able to watch at the video (with a duration of 2m27s) of this jump, by clicking on the following hyperlink: Mário Pardo BASE Jump - Antenna of Muge (13Jul02) The video is in Windows Media Player format (*.wmv). Just in case you don't have such software, you can get it at: Turn

Being so, the 2002 World Cup of Formation Skydiving will be simultaneously the 2002 Open European Championship in Formation Skydiving, from October 04-10, 2002, at the Centre de Paracaigudisme Costa Brava, Empuriabrava, Girona (Spain). Craig Girard's words after the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2002 Meeting, in Formation Skydiving, held at DeLand, Florida (U.S.A.), on March 16 and 17, 2002: "We came here and performed as good as never before in our team history. There is no reason to be disappointed if this is not good enough to win. Somebody must have been incredibly good to beat us." Meeting Results for the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2002, on Formation Skydiving - DeLand, Florida (U.S.A.) - March 16 and 17, 2002.
DeLand Majik and Airspeed Vertical after round 10 (Standing up, from left to right: John Eagle, Gary Smith, Neal Houston, Solly Williams, Marc Steinbaugh, Craig Girard and Doug Park; down, from left to right: Mark Kirkby and Joey Jones) FS-4 Team "DeLand Majik", comprising Solly Williams, Gary Smith, Joey Jones and Doug Park, took 1st place at the FSL Shamrock Showdown 2002 Meeting, during the weekend of March 16 and 17, 2002, beating the current World Champions, the 4-Way Team "Airspeed Vertical", with an outstanding average of 22.6 points in 10 rounds, which became a new world record. The draw was as follows: 1st jump: 12-H-2; 2nd jump: J-L-G-D-P; 3rd jump: 6-Q-C-B; 4th jump: K-N-7-16; 5th jump: F-A-14-M; 6th jump: 5-13-15; 7th jump: 18-3-10; 8th jump: 9-19-8; 9th jump: 17-4-22; 10th jump: 11-O-21. "Airspeed Vertical" 4-Way Team placed 2nd, with a nearly as amazing average of 22.3 points, which would be as well, without the exceptional "DeLand Majik" performance, a new world maximum itself for a 10 round competition. It was a competition weekend at the highest quality level of the FS-4 performed all around the world! "Best of Airspeed Video" - An awesome video production, where nothing was forgotten or hidden.
